One thing I noticed on the Piha hike and other trips around the Auckland area so far is that even though there are big differences between here and back home, there are quite a few things that look very much the same. Here's a few more pics from the trip. Quite a bit of it reminded me of Humboldt, particularly coming from the forest to the beach. Just remove 6 foot ferns and replace the world's second tallest trees with the world's tallest trees and you might not be able to tell the difference. Also, I like the fact that the coordinators decided to designate the emergency exit seat as the place to put their bags.
